Cato June, former Anacostia High School standout and NFL Super Bowl Champion and Pro-Bowler will be the keynote speaker for the 2012 Eastern Board of Officials Annual Awards Banquet. The banquet in its 24th year recognizes the on field talent of both the officials that call the game as well as the players that play the game within the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) . June a 1998 recipient of the Most Valuable Defensive player at the Varsity level will return to speak to “Success is a Journey”. in janury 2012, June was given the head coaching job at his alma matar Anacostia Senior High School. “It feels great,” June said. [on being appointed head coach] “Being able to kind of start again where everything all started in a sense and being able to take things that I’ve learned in my career and affect change in a positive way."

Cato Nnamdi June is a linebacker for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. A 2006 Pro Bowl choice, June was a member of the Super Bowl XLI champion Colts. During the Super Bowl championship season, June was the Colts' leading tackler. In addition to his tenure with the Colts, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before becoming a professional, he played college football at Michigan and was an outstanding athlete in high school football, basketball, track and field and baseball at Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C. As a senior, he was widely regarded to be the best high school football player in the District of Columbia.
He led Anacostia to the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) football championship title as a sophomore and in two subsequent championship games. He was city champion in the triple jump as a junior. As a senior, he earned all-league recognition in basketball and earned numerous honors in football, including District of Columbia Player of the year awards from Gatorade, USA Today and The Washington Post as well as the only Parade All-American recognition for an athlete in the District of Columbia. He was also co-class president, salutatorian and a member of the National Honor Society.
He was widely recruited for his all-around abilities as an athlete, scholar and leader. He attracted dozens of scholarship offers but chose the University of Michigan. He was a member of the defending national champions' recruiting class, which was considered to be the best in the country. He became a starter towards the end of his redshirt freshman year, but missed the entire next season due to injury. He returned as a fourth-year junior starter. He continued starting as a safety until an injury slowed him down late in his fifth-year senior season. Despite senior season injuries, he was named as an honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference player and was chosen to play in the Senior Bowl.
PRO CAREER: he joined the Omaha Nighthawks as a free agent linebacker for the 2010 UFL season… Originally chosen in the sixth round (198th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts… Played for the Colts from 2003-2006, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2007 and 2008 and the Chicago Bears in 2009… Appeared in 89 regular season games and started on 73 occasions… Registered 498 tackles, 1 sack, 14 pass defenses, 12 interceptions for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns… Added 3 forced fumbles…Enjoyed a career year with the Colts in 2006 when he started all 16 games and recorded 142 tackles, 3 interceptions for 14 yards and 2 forced fumbles… Recorded a career-high 5 interceptions for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns with the Colts in 2005.
COLLEGE: Began career as a safety… Played at Michigan from 1999-2002… Appeared in 12 games as a freshman and started four times, recording 27 tackles… Missed the 2000 campaign with a knee injury… Moved to strong safety in 2001 and started all but one game, ranking fourth on the team in tackles… Earned All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2002, recording 36 tackles, 4 tackles for losses and 2 sacks… Ended career with 102 tackles, 36 assists, 10 tackles for losses and 6 sacks.
PERSONAL: Started playing football at Muskogee High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma… Transferred to Anacostia High School and played cornerback, wide receiver and kickoff returner for the city championship-winning team… Outstanding athlete who also won a city championship in the triple jump as a junior and earned All-League recognition in basketball as a senior… Was named a Parade All-American on the football field and was named District of Columbia Player of the Year by Gatorade, USA Today and The Washington Post… Returned 3 kickoffs for touchdowns as a senior.
